Hoagy / Hoagy II

Album artwork

I’ve had the great pleasure of working with Chris Ingham on numerous design projects, including artwork for five albums. Chris wanted the packaging for Hoagy to evoke the gospel influences within the music. This presented an opportunity to flex my skeuomorphic muscles: a no-nonsense embossed lettering with thin foxed paper and dog-eared boards. I based the first Hoagy design on a battered King James bible, carefully reconstructing the feel of a well-thumbed hymnal to the dimensions of a digipak sleeve. Needless to say, the tiredness of these tomes playfully belies the enduring beauty of Hoagy Carmichael’s music and the extraordinary finesse of these interpretations.
